Adobe Photoshop, a venerable photo editing application that’s been around for almost a quarter century, is now available for Macs. Photoshop 10 is the first full version of the program to be fully available for Mac users. It’s also been specifically designed for the Mac platform, and it comes with a slew of new features. Users can now use the entire desktop, including multiple windows, in either full-screen mode or windowed mode. In addition, the program now offers local image fixes, a feature that lets users correct focal and exposure issues on individual photos. Also thanks to Photoshop 10 for Mac, Adobe has made an impressive effort to make the application work with existing Photoshop files.
The biggest news to me is that fully 64-bit Photoshop CS6 is now available.
The Auto Smart Fix feature will be a great time-saver for me. I rarely need to fly without at least one monitor and one pointing device, but I often have a hard time pinpointing where I last worked on an image or a problem until I view it on at least two screens and a mouse.
I will also be sure to test the new Time-Shift macro capability.
In addition, I prefer to remove noise and artifacts using either the Noise Filter or the Denoise filter, but the new Detail Retouch feature makes it even easier to achieve similar results.

The New Clean tool is an ideal new feature for professional photographers who want to apply a single graded halftone to skin tones and hair. It’s easy to apply a similar effect using a Multiply layer blend mode and then Gaussian Blur with Higher Radius. The Darken blend mode now includes a built-in histogram watched, letting you see the changes to highlights, shadows, and midtones as you adjust the opacity of your brush. Newly added intermediate protected states allow you to make any changes you want – protected by a lock layer that only allows you to edit the image in its protected state. These can be used as a buffer to safely save your image prior to sharing or taking it further in the work flow. They will appear as active layers when you work with editing by layers. The Color & Curves panels have been integrated into the Layers panel on the left of the workspace, making it easier to locate and place adjustment layers. Adjusting the opacity of an adjustment is now easier, with the default value tracking the strength of the adjustment. You can find the existing opacity by clicking on a selected adjustment and choosing the Adjustment Properties… item on the panel’s contextual menu. The new Expand feature is convenient for quickly enlarging images to create large shapes. The new Continuous Pan tool makes it easy to create panoramas using a series of images. The Document window flip feature makes backfilling a group of layers in one direction much easier. Launching an application from Photoshop now supports the Digital Cam Workflow: the camera icon automatically replaces the Blue Tooth icon, making it easy for you to launch your camera apps with one click.
