I have been using Elements 10 since it was first released and have found it to be an excellent product. One of the advantages of Elements (aside from the many parts and pages that can be organized easily), as with other Creative Suite products, is that it doesn’t need to be downloaded in order to create new projects. I use it to edit and convert RAW files and export to different formats. I also use the program to open, edit, and manipulate most of the file formats you can imagine. Photoshop is still my preferred product, but, as I’ve used other programs, I’ve noticed that Elements 10 not only has the features that other photographers need to have covered, but it also has useful tools that make the editing process go faster.

Adobe is also adding smart tools to help users eliminate unwanted objects, such as text, shapes, filters and layers, so they can focus on creativity. Users can effortlessly remove unwanted photo elements, including text, with the new Remove feature.

“The new Selection tool in Photoshop is unique. This tool draws around something in an image, which can be text, even a photographer’s aperture, and can have text or a filter used by Photoshop. Users can then easily draw a selection around that object—even on a live page—and use more advanced settings and customizations to edit the selection,” said Scott Belsky, senior director of product management at Adobe.

To improve content creation and editing experience, Photoshop Elements for Mac now auto-checks PSE’s latest form submission and will optionally submit images to PSE, as well as queries to the Adobe Indexed Color Technology (ACES).

New features for the desktop app also include the smart Edge-to-edge tool that has an innovative’spatial’ brush that efficiently draws on images, and a new Re-Select tool that allows users to quickly make an unlimited number of selections, rather than the previous one selection limit. Both of these tools are available in the beta.

New features in the “Smart Brush” include a smart eraser, that automatically determines if an existing stroke is too heavy and automagically blends in with the area it is erasing. The Smart Object Brush tool lets users draw over both live and non-live areas of images, and with the new’relative’ container, users can hover over containers that contain smart brushes and see the strokes they apply. In the following Capture button, users can apply to the entire layer, or any portion of the layer that was captured. Adobe officials said the new Capture feature simplifies the process of image capture and lies below the layer-based tools in the Capture menu.

You don’t need to use a password when you log in to the Firefox Multimedia Extensions unless you’re trying to get around the browser security. The Firefox YouTube extension lets you play YouTube videos in the browser. Choose “YouTube” from the menu.

If you’re looking for something that does one thing and does it well, it’s worth checking out the new Adobe Photoshop Fix feature. Photoshop Fix is an all-in-one PDF repair tool that serves as a quality control tool for businesses and professional designers. Tools are available for on-screen/off-screen correction, fixing perspective issues, clean up stray lines and more. You can use Photoshop Fix in conjunction with a macOS clipboard or use the tool on its own as a standalone quality control and audit tool. The Photoshop Fix is set to be included with Photoshop CC and Photoshop CC on iPad. Photoshop Fill Channels allows you to flip pixels on a layer in the image, and then use the channel to add or subtract color. Photoshop Edit for Display allows you to crop an image by using the inspector instead of selecting the area to be cropped. The Photoshop Viewer technology is available in all FX, CC and LR versions. The panel’s features and functionality are shared between desktop and mobile versions. Like Adobe Master Collection, Photoshop Match has been upgraded with enhanced accuracy, controls and performance for better matching logos. Now the software can match logos on non-aligned boundaries. Another new feature, Photoshop Tilt-Shift, works with the new Lens Blur filter, to create physical effects such as near-motion blur and defocus.

Don’t have Photoshop – but still need to do some damage to your images? Well, there’s at least one way to do it – and it doesn’t seem too violent. In fact, it’s something you’ve probably done many times:

Next, save the file from your vector software as an image file. Now, you can load it into Photoshop and paste your vector elements into it. Then, resize and damage the vector layers, and save the file as a new image. When you open this file again, you’ll get a Photoshop document. (And all the vector elements will still be intact.)

If you hate playing along with Photoshop’s new Artboards, have no fear – not all of them are bad. If you head to Photoshop’s Brush panel, you’ll find a new Artboard option. So, you can apply your brush settings without messing with the Artboard. Or, as a quick fix, you can just press “U” to create a new Artboard – which will be the old one. (That’s what we’re doing here – right after the break.)

Quickly create custom presets for finishing retouching an image, including border on or off, photo face, slight skin around eyes or mouth, and removing red eye. The addition of three new retouching brushes in the Refine Edge and Content-Aware tools allows for the creation of new edges in objects for more refined retouching. HDR can also be applied to seamlessly blend multiple exposures into one image with different settings. The Smart Mask option automatically analyzes the light and shadow areas for skin or hair, and makes it easy to remove unwanted areas while retaining details.

A new Content-Aware option is available for correcting blurred photos without requiring the use of manual brushing. It can replace object parts or areas with similar content, such as reflections or a sky color, to create a more realistic image. The Content-Aware tool can also blend a still image’s background into a photo. And the new Clarity tool and advanced Shadow/Highlight capabilities reveal more detail to bring out the subtle tones of a photo’s shadows and highlights.

The Media browser lets you search and play media files directly from the browser. Users can drag and drop media files directly to Photoshop and choose between opening them or creating new files, all without launching a more-advanced file browser.

Adobe has also added an automatic face recognition component that can detect faces in a new image as a way to have a better control over the face. Lighten the face with the new lighten HDR adjustment instead of simply using an adjustment layer; apply the adjustment in predefined ways; and make fine tweaking choices for skin and lighting.
