New users will be accustomed to working in the command line of another app, and that familiarity can be clumsy in Elements.

Elements also lacks features that other programs have. There’s no spot healing, no selective erasing, no cropping, no masking, no clipping masking, no undo. (In Elements, you can undo changes made in the “Edit” tab, but you can’t undo changes in the “Adjust” tab, which is where you do most of the photo editing). Plus, you can’t print or create Web-ready files (there’s a Web-support option in the “Print” tab but no option to save as a Web-ready JPEG). The web page says that the print option will be available later this year, but we don’t know yet if it will be for the Elements or the total Photoshop. There’s no automatic adjustment of levels, contrast, or color balance, and neither the Pro version nor the Elements version can export to the cloud. (You can, however, save an image as the cloud-URL-friendly JPEG format.) Adobe can also force you to purchase more expensive versions of Elements if you attempt to install more than one version on the same computer. That’s maybe an option if you only need to do a little photo editing, but it probably isn’t ideal if you want to do a lot and need to use Elements on multiple computers.
