A RACIST who stabbed a Sikh man in the back at a Glasgow karaoke bar has been spared jail.

John Yule, 37, lashed out with his machete at Kandeep Sandhu, 42, in the wake of an argument over the language of a rap song.

A jury heard Yule and his friends had paid £5 for four table dances at Yule’s stamping ground, Ripski’s Bar, in the western end of the city in May last year.

When he became incensed by hearing a song sung in Hindi, which he claimed was offensive to him, Yule demanded the singer turn off the lyric-filled song.

He became enraged after the singer refused to comply, Yule said, telling the jury how he then “snapped”.

He said: “When I realised no one was speaking English to me, I then snapped. I snapped at the guy that was making the song in Hindi, that is what I am admitting to.

“When I yelled, if I admit to anything else, it will be a life sentence. It is best that I admit to only what is at my door.”

As the row escalated, Yule admitted to splashing ketchup on Sandhu and attempting to strike him with his machete.

He then picked up another weapon, a screwdriver, and battered a table the victim was sitting at before chasing the man through a door and stabbing him.

Yule, of Parkview Road, Glasgow, added that he was “angry” and “upset” at seeing Sandhu, who he described as a “brown man”, singing in Hindi and at being told it was offensive.
