Mighty Switch Force, available for 3DS and handhelds like the 3DS XL, is the newest title in the series. It’s also the only musou game available on the Nintendo eShop. Plus, it has the highest amount of combined eShop Space in the entire series. Mighty Switch Force! was developed by Camelot Software, which was originally an independent developer.

Like in other musou titles, characters can unlockable abilities as they level up, and players can maneuver to a different battlefield to fight on different maps. However, without an internet connection, you can’t change maps or hit a computer to advance. It’s an offline musou gameplay, with no online ranking. An interesting concept, to say the least.

While there are lots of unique units in the game, the main difference between this one and previous games is that characters have separate moves. In previous games, players could only use one of each character’s moves the entire game. Now, they can switch between characters. Also, maps now have icons.

The main story mode focuses on playable characters (such as Emperor Wang Shifan, a playable character in Dynasty Warriors, Warriors Orochi and Warriors All-Stars) coming together to fight the evil tyrant Xiahou Dun, while unlocking numerous new units. It’s a pretty simple concept, but it has a fun spin on it. Players can use new units to take out specific groups of enemies or mow down waves of enemies. Some enemies can be near-impossible to take out without a certain unit.

As the first musou game released on the Nintendo eShop this year, it’s highly anticipated, so you can expect to see it on all platforms. As with most musou games, expect to see the full version of this move available for just $7.99.
